Our Porcelain tiles do not use porcelain used in brittle and fragile crockery, no, this is porcelain that is fired in a kiln at over 1200 degrees Celsius. It is non-porous which means it doesn’t absorb water and so it resists cracking from the freeze and thaw process. Also being water resistant means it won’t get soaked and crumble.

So what’s the difference between Porcelain and Ceramic tiles? It is down to the type of clay used and how it is dried. Porcelain tiles tend to be made from a more refined and dense clay and fired at much higher temperatures which eradicates almost 100% of the moisture content of the tile. Using a denser clay does mean that Porcelain Tiles are much more heavy weight than its ceramic counterparts, but you will find over time especially they are much more hardwearing.

What other advantages can you expect from our Porcelain Tiles:

  • Uniform Thickness – Manufactured to perfection to ensure a perfectly level surface.
  • Easy to Clean – Can simply be washed with a medium hard brush and soapy water.
  • Fade resistant – They won’t lose their colour especially in sunny spots.
  • Frostproof – These tiles will not crack in winter and are a great choice for all seasons.
  • High PEI Rating – You are able to search on our store for tiles with High PEI (Porcelain Enamel Institute) ratings. The higher the rating the tougher the tile. However, anything from a PEI rating of 5 plus can be considered extremely strong and suitable for very heavy traffic areas.

Finally, here at the Tile Shed we have a large selection of tile sizes to suit the look you are attempting to achieve. Note, the larger the tile the more contemporary the look will be. So if you are looking for that ultra-modern sophisticated look associated with a LA penthouse think XXL Tiles. Whatever your choice here at the Tile Shed we promise you will love your new porcelain tiles and enjoy them for many years to come.
